Oh La La, Playa del Carmen, Mexico
“It is not surprising this is #1. It’s mine too.”

I am a seasoned traveler and I do not make my decisions on impulse. This is a fantastic place. Period. After living in New York City for 8 years, and spending time in Paris when I was younger, you could say I have been to many restaurants all over the world. Think about it for one second.  There are over 700 restaurants in Playa del Carmen, and this one consistently shows up as #1.  The reason?  You combine amazing food with authentic owners that love what they do and you have a winning combination.  I found this place to be unique on many levels:

#1 I truly believe chefs are artists, and you’re only as good of an artist as you are as a person. The owners, Jorge and Mikaela—have a passion for what they are doing and it is obvious in the food.

Oh La La is famous for their tuna dishes.

All of their curry dishes are perfection!

All desserts taste as lovely as they are presented:)

#2 When we are on vacation, celebrating a special event, or just want a good meal, we want a peaceful environment to share the experience in with our loved one’s. This place is beautiful. Of course I may be biased because they have one of my favorite paintings on the wall “The Kiss.”

#3 The food (obviously) is amazing. Oh my! It is so delicious but words or photos do not do it justice.  You have to go and check it out for yourself.

I celebrated my 40th birthday there with friends from the USA, and I recently took a solo trip to further research this place. I truly believe it’s the best restaurant in Playa and there are a lot of great places to eat there. I was not surprised that it won #1 in the country since the last time I visited.  Most recently, I took a tour group there because I wanted to impress them with my foodie knowledge.  All I had to do was book a reservation well in advance and they were very happy with my selection.  As a tour organizer, my reputation is on the line.  I chose Oh La La as our last dinner together because I knew that it would be one of their more memorable experiences.

The most humble fact about this place is that they only take 24 reservations per night. They do not want to sacrifice great food and customer service for money. I have never heard of this in all of my years of seeing the world. This fact tells you a lot about the restaurant and their commitment and love for what they do. It may be #1 in Mexico, but it is #1 on my personal list as well and that is in any city I have been to.

If  you are in The Riviera Maya area, do NOT miss this place. Make a reservation and then allow yourself to be spoiled.
