Are Time Shares Worth the Investment?

Are Time Shares Worth the Investment?

Lyrics to the hit song ¨Hotel California¨ were probably inspired after a Time Share presentation.  How would you like to vacation like a rock star every year on your budget?  Imagine going to a five star resort every year for less than what a hotel will cost you.  ¨We are not a timeshare.  We are an investment in your quality of life.¨  No matter what a salesperson will tell you, timeshare sales are a business and the bottom line is making money.  In this article we will explore the pros and cons of owning a timeshare by comparing two of the most popular presentations in The Riviera Maya area.  My goal was to visit three of them, but I actually only got through two and the reason for this may surprise you. #1 Vidanta/Mayan Palace Hands down this property is impressive and with every luxury imaginable.  The presentation was, quite frankly one of the most aggressive experiences of my life and when I use that word I am being polite.  You will go through four people before they decide to let you go.  The pressure is so intense that the original salesperson turns you over to his Supervisor.  The Supervisor pressures you and gets upset when you decide not to buy.  Afterwards, you meet a third person which makes another pitch and walks you to the ¨exit¨ to get your taxi.  Once you get your taxi voucher a fourth person comes in and gives you another ¨deal¨ you cannot pass—except for the purposes of researching this article I did.  Timeshares have gotten a bad rep over the years...
A Story of Transformation

A Story of Transformation

When I look in the mirror, I like what I see.  I wish I was taller, there are times during the year that I gained some pounds that I wish I could get rid of, and if I could choose, I would not mind having a smaller booty.  These are all silly wishes in the big scheme of things and not anything to stress over. However, what happens when you wake up in the morning and you do NOT like what you see?  Does this not apply to most people at some point in life?  Don’t we ALL have to go through a process of self-love and self-acceptance after pain and disappointments?  Imagine if this feeling went a step further.  What would happen if you feel like one gender on the inside, but your body is the opposite gender?  For one second, imagine living in a Halloween costume that you cannot take off at the end of the night. I do not know what it is like to be born a man any more than I know what it is like to be born a Scottish woman.  I have no idea what a Chinese person feels like when they visit their grandparents after having been born and raised in The United States, but then they are judged by others for not speaking the language.  I have zero idea of what it means to be black and the struggles and prejudice that they go through.  However, that does not mean that I cannot find common ground in their story to reach a place of compassion and understanding for their...
The Un-Life of a Train Conductor Vs. Trump’s America

The Un-Life of a Train Conductor Vs. Trump’s America

When I tell people I was once a train conductor I get a big gasp of disbelief.  It seems I am not the image of a train conductor and I am pretty sure I do not look like Tom Hanks.  However, I really hated it when people didn’t have their ticket or when passengers wanted to use some lame excuse as to how I was “singling” them out because of some irrelevant yet a hot trending issue.  It is not easy being around hundreds of people every day.   Managing different personalities with lack of sleep combined with the over-worked lives of our travelers is a skill that cannot be taught. However, the position taught me how to observe people from all walks of life and how to eventually be able to write articles like this one. The truth is that at one point I LOVED being a train conductor.  I was able to use the train for free and I took advantage of that very much.  I was able to go from one side of the country to the other.  I was able to hop in my car (yes, my car) from Virginia to Florida as I wined and dined on the Auto train.  It was a magnificent time and I enjoyed every minute of it—until I didn’t.  See, riding the train and working on one are two totally separate experiences. I wrote this article to honor all the railroad employees and  staff from the Engineers to the Snack bar employees and Train conductors.  I call it the “un-life” because so much of our everyday lives are sacrificed.  From...
Synchronicity Travels and My Commitment to Travelers

Synchronicity Travels and My Commitment to Travelers

Dear Traveler, I just got back from a wonderful trip to Europe and wanted to share my commitment to travelers everywhere.  I do not travel just to see beautiful places and eat yummy foods.  For me, the benefits of traveling outweighs what our five senses can perceive.  For me, the joy of meeting people that are different to our way of life helps us grow and learn outside of our daily bubble.   On one end, we appreciate others as a part of the bigger picture and their contribution to OUR WORLD.  On the other end, we feel the common thread that we are all united no matter where our roots are.  It is my goal to share with others this inexplicable energy that happens when we immerse ourselves in other places.  Synchronicity happens in our lives but we are not always aware of this energy.  It is a passion of mine to create memories that start with our imagination and to allow these materialized experiences to transform our lives. One evening in Thailand, I could swim and eat dinner while going back and forth between swimming and eating.  A group of us sat quietly enjoying a Thailand sunset, eating amazing food, and enriching each other by sharing the moment regardless of the fact that we all had a different language.  We were an International family for that moment in time.  I live for moments like this and I consciously create them. In retrospect, my travel career started a very long time ago.  I was once a NYC tour guide and have also given walking tours of Washington D.C....
Meditate The Vote

Meditate The Vote

“In a democracy people get the government they deserve.”—Joseph Maistre We have all heard the above quote before at some point in our lives.  If we read it carefully, we CHOOSE the government we THINK we deserve. This means that change starts with us and not the other way around. On May 1, 2016, Sister Jenna, host of the America Meditating Radio Show and an alliance of friends, launched a “Meditate the Vote” Initiative which will continue until Election Day on November 8, 2016. There are a lot of issues dividing the world today. Instead of coming up with answers to issues that divide us, it’s time to start asking ourselves the kind of questions that will bring about the change we want to see in our lives. Our positive changes will stimulate a ripple effect out into the world. It doesn’t matter whether you are Democrat, Republican, or Independent. Ask yourself, do you feel capable of changing the world? If so, do you feel worthy of a better planet? A more peaceful world? How powerful do you feel you are and what can YOU do to create a world we are all worthy of? It doesn’t take a news anchor to remind us that Global Warming is happening, that animals all around the world are becoming extinct at alarming rates, that the wealthy are getting wealthier and the middle class is getting smaller. We created the world that we live in today which means we have the ability and the power to change it. Instead of thinking along the lines of division, labels, race, class or any thing else that classifies...
Meet Winnie The Tooth Fairy

Meet Winnie The Tooth Fairy

Meet the tooth fairy! She has a name and it’s Winnie. It sounds appropriate doesn’t it? She is literally Winnie the tooth fairy. I love it! She’s a German dentist that combines her passion for traveling, photography, and charity to bring you her very own message of service to others. She’s making Our World better by helping those less fortunate one tooth at a time:) At the same time that Finallyelaine.com was launched—TheToothFairyTravels.com was similarly coming to life. I first “met” Winnie in an online seminar for bloggers and her message resonated with me. Similarly, I was combining my passions to somehow be of service to the world one word at a time. If it wasn’t for Winnie, I wouldn’t have been inspired to connect with charities and do my part in making this world just a little bit better for all of us. The tooth fairy lived in Dubai for eight years and decided to leave her previous life behind her to be of service to the world. She is using her talent as a dentist and travels around by offering her services to those that may not be able to afford it any other way. A lady with a heart, a mission, a sense of purpose and action is an inspiration to us all. To visit her website just click below: TheToothFairyTravels .  If her message inspires you—do not hesitate to give her a challenge. She does a “Truth or Fairy” challenge that serves as a fundraiser for German doctors. It’s all for a good cause and Winnie deserves the accolades that come her way for her efforts....
